The short answer

To get your business found in Google AI answers, do the fundamentals of search well, because Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on the same index and need no special markup. Make sure your pages are indexed and crawlable, write clear pages that answer real customer questions, keep business details consistent across your website and Google Business Profile, and earn mentions from trusted sites. There is no guaranteed trick. Check your own searches regularly to see whether you are cited.

  • Pages must be indexed and allowed to show a snippet to be a source.
  • Clear, direct answers to real customer questions help.
  • Keep name, address, hours and services consistent everywhere.
  • Google says no special AI optimisation is required.

How Google picks sources

AI Overviews and AI Mode show links alongside generated answers. Google’s guidance says a page has to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet to qualify, and that standard SEO best practice applies. That means the foundation is the same one you needed before AI answers existed. Sources: Google Search Central: AI features and your website

Make sure Google can reach you

Check that robots.txt and your hosting or CDN are not blocking Googlebot, that important pages are linked from your own site, and that nothing carries a noindex or nosnippet tag by accident. Search Console shows indexing status for each page, and it is free. Sources: Google Search Central: AI features and your website

Write pages that answer the question

Put the direct answer near the top of the page, in plain words, then explain. Cover the questions customers actually ask, including cost factors, timing, service areas and what happens next. Include real details only your business has, like local suburbs, project photos and licence numbers where relevant.

Keep business details consistent

Use the same name, address, phone number, hours and service descriptions on your website, Google Business Profile and directory listings. Inconsistency makes it harder for any system to be sure what you are. Fill in your Business Profile fully and keep it current.

Earn trust beyond your own site

Reviews, industry listings, press mentions and links from relevant sites show that others vouch for you. Ask customers for honest reviews, and keep your profiles on trade bodies and local directories accurate. This is slow work and it also helps ordinary search.

Check and adjust

Search your key services in Google, including AI Mode, and note whether an overview appears and which sites it cites. Do this monthly and keep notes. If you are not cited, look at whether cited pages answer more directly or have better detail, and improve yours accordingly. Be sceptical of tools or agencies promising guaranteed placement.
