The short answer

To use Claude AI in Australia, go to claude.ai, sign up with an email address or Google account, and verify your details. Australia is on Anthropic’s list of supported regions, which you should confirm on its supported countries page. Start on the Free plan, then move to Pro for one person or Team for a group once you hit limits or need shared projects. Spend your first week on one repeated task, set a data rule for staff, and review the results on Friday.

  • Sign up at claude.ai or through the mobile app, and confirm Australia is a supported region.
  • Plans are billed in US dollars, so check the official pricing page for current terms.
  • Use a business plan before staff handle customer information.
  • Plan the first week around one task and one written data rule.

Sign up and check availability

Create an account at claude.ai with an email address or a supported single sign-on option, or download the app on iOS or Android. Anthropic publishes a list of supported countries, and Australia is included at the time of writing, but confirm it yourself before rolling out to a team, since the list can change. Use a work email you control, not a personal one, so the account stays with the business if someone leaves. Sources: Anthropic supported countries and regions

Choose a plan

Begin on Free to test. If you reach limits, Pro suits one person. For two or more people sharing files and instructions, Team is the plan that adds shared projects, central billing and admin controls. Plans are priced in US dollars, so budget for exchange rate movement and any GST treatment, and check the official pricing page. Do not buy seats for everyone on day one; add them as people show they use it. Sources: Claude pricing

Set the privacy settings on day one

On an individual plan, open the privacy settings and decide whether your chats may be used to improve Claude. Anthropic lists training as an opt-out on individual plans and none by default on Team and Enterprise. Write one rule on what staff must not paste in, using the OAIC guidance as a reference. Do this before the first real task, not after, and tell staff where the setting lives. Sources: Anthropic Privacy Center, OAIC: guidance on privacy and the use of commercially available AI products

Day 1 to 2: pick one task

Choose a task you do weekly that produces text, such as a client follow-up, a quote or meeting notes. Give Claude two good examples of your best work and ask it to match the style. Edit the result, then save the instructions so the next run starts better. Keep the examples free of customer names, and aim for a draft you only need to lightly edit.

Day 3 to 4: add files and a Project

Create a Project for the task and add your template, price list or style guide as project knowledge. Every chat in that Project now starts with those documents. Keep sensitive documents out until you have checked who can see the Project. Test the Project by asking a question you know the answer to, and fix the files if it gets it wrong. Day 5: review and decide

Look at how many times you used it, how long the task took before and now, and what Claude got wrong. Decide whether to keep it, upgrade the plan or add a second task. A weakness of a first week is small sample size, so repeat the check after a month. Share the results with the team so the decision does not rest on one person’s enthusiasm.
