Which AI model should a CEO use in November 2026?

Two good answers. Learn Claude Code and run Opus if you can. If not, put your business data in a CRM with MCP and connect whichever assistant you like.

The short answer

If you are willing to spend a few hours learning, use Claude Code with Claude Opus 5.5. It can read your files, build small tools and carry out multi-step work, not just chat. If that is too much, the model matters less than the data it can see. Run your customers, jobs and notes in a CRM that supports MCP, the standard way to connect AI assistants to business systems, and plug in Claude or ChatGPT. Either assistant becomes far more useful once it can read and update your real records.

  • Best option: Claude Code with Opus 5.5, for owners willing to learn a new tool.
  • Simplest option: a CRM with an MCP connection, used from Claude or ChatGPT.
  • An assistant connected to your data beats a smarter one that only sees what you paste in.
  • Pay for a business plan with data controls, whichever route you pick.

The short answer

Most CEOs ask which chatbot is smartest. The more useful question is which setup lets AI do real work in your business. In November 2026 the top models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google are close enough on everyday tasks that the difference comes from what the model can see and do. That points to two setups.

Option one: learn Claude Code and use Opus

Claude Code is Anthropic’s agent tool. It runs on your computer or in the browser, works inside a folder of your files, and can write and run code to get a job done. Pair it with Claude Opus 5.5, Anthropic’s most capable model, released in September, and you can ask it to clean up a spreadsheet, draft a proposal from past ones, build a quote calculator or pull a report from three systems. It started as a developer tool, but owners who are comfortable with a computer pick it up in an afternoon. Opus costs more than smaller models, so use it on a paid plan with sensible limits. Why it is worth the learning curve

A chat window answers questions. An agent finishes tasks. Once you have used Claude Code to turn a Friday afternoon of copying between spreadsheets into a five-minute job, you start to see which parts of the business could run the same way. It also changes how you brief developers and suppliers, because you know what is now quick and cheap to build.

Option two: a CRM with MCP, and any assistant

If you do not want to learn a new tool, put your effort into your data instead. MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard for connecting AI assistants to business software. Both Claude and ChatGPT can connect to MCP servers. A CRM with an MCP connection lets you ask “which quotes from last month have not been followed up?” or “log a call with this customer and set a reminder for Thursday” in plain English, and the assistant does it against your real records. Claude or ChatGPT on top of the CRM?

Once the data is connected, pick the assistant your team prefers and gets the best results from. Claude tends to be stronger at careful writing and following detailed instructions; ChatGPT is familiar to most staff and has a large ecosystem. Many businesses use both. The CRM stays the single source of truth either way, so you can switch assistants later without losing anything.

What to avoid

Paying for five AI subscriptions that each see a different slice of the business. Pasting customer details into personal accounts. Connecting an assistant to everything at once: start with read access, add write access to one area, and keep a person approving anything that goes to a customer.

Where to start this week

If you like hands-on tools, install Claude Code, open a folder of real work documents and give it a job you did by hand last week. If you would rather not, list where your customer and job data lives today, and ask whether that system offers an MCP connection. If it does not, that is a good reason to move to one that does.

Questions people ask

Is Claude Code only for programmers?

No. It was built for developers, but it works in plain English, and non-technical owners use it for spreadsheets, documents, reports and small internal tools.

Do I need Opus, or is a cheaper model enough?

Sonnet 5.5 handles most everyday work well and costs less. Use Opus for longer, harder tasks where getting it right first time saves you time.

What is MCP in plain terms?

A standard plug that lets an AI assistant read and update a business system, such as a CRM, with your permission.

Should my team use Claude or ChatGPT?

Whichever they get better results from on your own work. If your data sits in a CRM with MCP, you can use either, or both.
